If you'd like to forward a domain name that you have to another domain or subdomain, the best way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being pointed loses all of its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it's redirected to. This way, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be directed to the Internet site that you have set up, but it will also be displayed in the web browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all of the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain due to the fact that this kind of a record set up for the main domain address renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

In case you have a cloud hosting plan through our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it will take you just a few mouse clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted inside your account from the Hepsia CP included with every single plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, choosing the type, which is CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the change. If you've never added this type of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll help you with this task. If you have created an Internet site through another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks in your Control Panel.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will enable you to set up a CNAME record with ease. In case you want to create a private URL for your emails, to redirect a domain address to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain address to another provider and use some third-party service that they provide, it will not require more than 3 mouse clicks to set up such a record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted within the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so when you're there, all you will have to do will be to pick the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your convenience, you can watch a short video inside the CP on how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that's available in the DNS records section.
