Whenever you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that specific company. On their end, three records are created automatically the moment the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the Internet domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that manages the emails for that specific domain. The site and the e-mail hosting are often thought to be one thing, when they're in fact two different services. Having independent records for them will permit you to have them with different companies if you would like. As an example, some new service provider could have excellent uptime for your site, but you may not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by using an A record to point the Internet domain to the first and MX records to have the e-mails with the latter, you will get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you wish to open a website or send an email - either way, the company whose name servers are used for the domain name will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you're going to see the needed website or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a Linux cloud hosting through us, you'll be able to view, create and modify any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. Provided that a specific domain name has our Name Servers, you will be able to change specific records using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or emails directed to any other company if you would like to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will enable you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address at all. If you want to use the e-mail services of a different service provider and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do it with just a couple of clicks in the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for each of your domain addresses or subdomains is extremely easy if you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are maintained via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which includes a section devoted to the DNS records of your domains. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you can click on each of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record is as simple as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even if you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not experience any troubles if you decide to move your site or emails to a different service provider while keeping the second service with our company. When required, you may also create additional MX records and set a certain priority in accordance with the recommendations of the new provider.
